On warm summer evenings, I head out back with a wedge and a few balls, practicing gentle chips onto my backyard putting green. The bentgrass sits low and tight, edged with a few ornamental rocks, and it’s just enough space to lose the day’s tension. The red flag waves slightly in the breeze, and the grass smell mixes with cut hay from the neighbor’s field. It’s not about distance—it’s about the slow, satisfying plink of a ball dropping into the cup, quiet and all mine.
